Dental Hygiene

Professional cleaning and tailored care for a healthy smile

Regular hygiene visits are one of the most effective ways to maintain a healthy mouth and avoid future problems. At Shelbourne Dental Clinic, our hygienists work as part of the dental team to help keep your teeth and gums in excellent condition, with a strong focus on prevention and long-term care that fits your routine.

Why is hygiene care important?

Plaque and tartar can build up in hard-to-reach areas, even with good brushing and flossing at home. Left undisturbed, these deposits can irritate the gums and lead to inflammation, bleeding and eventually gum disease. They can also cause persistent bad breath and, over time, may even lead to tooth loss.

Routine hygiene appointments remove this buildup and help protect your dental health over the long term. They are also an opportunity to check in on your home care and pick up a few small changes that can make a real difference.

What does a hygiene visit involve?

Your hygienist will gently and thoroughly clean your teeth using a combination of ultrasonic and hand instruments. Polishing follows the cleaning to remove surface stains and leave everything feeling clean and refreshed.

Most patients find the process very comfortable, and many say they enjoy how fresh and smooth their teeth feel afterwards.

Support without judgement

Every mouth is different and so is every patient. Whether you are managing sensitivity, struggling to floss, or simply want to improve your daily routine, our hygienists are here to help.

We do not lecture or judge. We listen, guide and work with you to find simple, effective habits that fit into your life. Our aim is to support you in keeping your smile healthy, not to criticise the past but to focus on what is next.
